  • Increasing Budgetary Provision for Health Sector

    As per Economic Survey 2012-13, the percentage of GDP allocated for health expenditure in the country during 2012-13 (BE) is 1.36 %.

  • Generation of Plastic Waste

    The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has carried out a study through Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Ahmadabad on “Assessment and Quantification of Plastic Waste in 60 Cities” during the year 2010-11. As per this study, the total quantum of plastic waste generated in the country is estimated to be about 15,342.46 tonnes per day. The total plastic waste, which is collected and recycled in the country, is estimated to be about 9205 tonnes per day and about 6137 tonnes per day of plastic waste remains uncollected.

  • Rs. 4995 Crore Centre Subsidy to Provide Ration Sugar at Existing Rates

    Prof. K.V.Thomas, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has informed Lok Sabha today that the Central Government is providing subsidy for distribution of sugar through fair price shops in the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) at a uniform Retail Issue Price (RIP) throughout the country. He was replying to a written question in the House.

  • Initiative in Renewable Energy Sector

    The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been implementing broad-based Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) Programme on New Technologies such as Hydrogen Energy, Fuel Cells, Battery Operated Electric Vehicles, Bio-Fuels, Tidal Energy and Geothermal Energy through research and academic institutions and state nodal agencies for more than a decade. Financial support up to 100% of project cost is provided by the Ministry for implementation of RD&D projects.

  • Foreign Investment in Renewable Energy

    As per information available, a number of companies from Denmark have joint collaborations with Indian private sector companies in the renewable energy sector in India. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Denmark for cooperation for development of new and renewable energy sector.

  • Promotion of Agro and Rural Industries

    The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has been implementing a number of schemes including the Prime Minister`s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for promotion of agro and rural industries(ARI) through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Coir Board.

  • 441.21 Lakh Tonnes Wheat to be Procured During Current RABI Marketing Season

    Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has said that his Ministry has estimated procurement of 441.21 lakh tons has been made for wheat during the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2013-14. He was replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha today.

     

  • Clearance to Coal Mining Projects to be Expedited

    The Government has been addressing the impediments coming in the way of taking up of coal mining projects by the coal companies. A regular interaction between Ministry of Coal (MoC) and Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) is taking place to address the pending issues concerning Environmental Clearances (EC) and Forestry Clearances (FC). Similarly regular interaction with the concerned State Government is taking place to address the issues related to land acquisition and Rehabilitation & Resettlement of project affected persons.

    It is a great honour to welcome all of you on behalf of the Government of India to the 46th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the National Capital Region of India. I had the same honour, as the Chair of the Board of Governors, when India hosted the 39th Annual General Meeting in 2006 at Hyderabad.

    Following is the text of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh’s speech at the Inaugural Session of the 46th AGM of the Asian Development Bank today:

  • 37.85% Increase in ICDS Beneficiaries from 10th to 11th Five Year Plan

    The beneficiaries of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) of the Ministry of Women and Child Development for supplementary nutrition (children 6 months to 6 years) and pregnant and lactating mothers increased to 972.49 lakh as on 31.3.2012 (end of XIth plan) from 705.43 lakh as on 31.3.2007 (end of Xth Plan) thereby registering a 37.85% increase between the two Plans.

  • Global crude oil price of Indian Basket falls sharply to 98.68/US$ bbl on 02.5.2013

    The international crude oil price of Indian Basket as computed/published today by Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas went down sharply to US$98.68/barrel (bbl) on 2.05.2013.This was lower than the price of  US$ 101.34/bbl prevailing on the previous trading day of 30.04.2013.

     

  • Performance of Central Public Sector Enterprises

    The cumulative production of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Department of Heavy Industry during the year 2012-13 has been to the tune of Rs. 56,506.25 crore as against Rs. 56,009.39 crore during the year 2011-12. Giving this information in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, said that the mechanism of monthly reports and periodic review meetings for regular monitoring of performance of CPSEs under the Department is in place.

  • Revamping of Scooters India Limited

    The modalities of the revival programme planned by the Government for revamping of Scooters India Ltd. (SIL) have been finalized. Giving this information in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, said that Government has approved the following revival proposal for the SIL:

    i) To infuse fund to the tune of Rs. 70.38 crore as equity for capital expenditure;

    ii) To provide Rs. 20 crore as interest free plan loan for working capital;

  • Safeguarding Interests of BHEL

    The Government has said that steps are being taken to protect the interests and efficiency of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in the face of competition from China.  Stating this in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, said that a number of Chinese companies are competing with BHEL in the Indian market such as Dongfang, Harbin Power, Shanghai Electric, SEPCO etc.
