  • India-US trade talks recommence, but the US still looking at arm-twisting India

    India complied with the US directives to stop importing oil from Iran after American waivers granted to eight countries still buying the oil expired in the first week of May. Coerced by the US, which is aiming at the Government change in Venezuela, India has also ended oil import from Venezuela, increasing further its dependence on Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the UAE.

    Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal, held a bilateral meeting with Indonesian Minister of Trade, Enggartiasto Lukita in New Delhi yesterday. Piyush Goyal raised concerns about India's trade deficit with Indonesia which stood at USD 10.57 billion in India's trade deficit with Indonesia during 2018-19. He said that the balance of trade is heavily in favor of Indonesia and both countries need to work towards establishing sustainable trade by diversifying the export basket.

  • All Maharashtra jetties to handle cargo as well as passengers

    In an attempt to revive its 2016 Port Policy the state cabinet on Tuesday approved a slew of concessions. The cabinet has allowed all the 48 Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) jetties to handle cargo as well as passenger traffic. Earlier the two were segregated. While 16 handle cargo, the others are for passenger traffic. These will now be allowed to do both.
