  • 'Bringing Green Revolution in Eastern India' Scheme Results in Rise in Rice Production

    In order to address the constraints limiting the productivity of rice based cropping systems in eastern India, the Government launched a programme namely 'Bringing Green Revolution in Eastern India (BGREI)' during the year 2010-11. It is a sub scheme of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and is being implemented in seven States viz. Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

  • Bailout Package for Air India

    The Financial Restructuring Plan (FRP) and Turn Around Plan (TAP) of Air India was considered by the Government on 12.04.2012 and approved as under:-

    i) Induction of upfront equity of Rs. 6,750 crore, including Rs.1,200 crore provided in the Budget of 2011-12 and already released, in the Financial Year 2011-12.

    ii) Equity for Cash deficit support of Rs.4,552 crore from Financial Year 2012-13 to Financial Year 2017-18.

    iii) Equity for already guarantee aircraft loan of Rs. 18,929 crore till Financial Year 2021.

  • India Ready to Launch Cloud Computing Initiative

    The Minister of Communications and IT, Shri Kapil Sibal says India with its vibrant IT industry and adoption of IT in Government, is uniquely positioned to immensely benefit from cloud computing. Shri Sibal was delivering the keynote address at the day-long Open House on “India as a Hub for Cloud Services” held in New Delhi today, organised by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DietY).

  • Relaxation of Norms for LNG Imports From US

    The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri R.P.N. Singh informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply today that in view of recent increase in commercialization of Shale Gas resources in US, there has been considerable availability of gas in US resulting in low Henry Hub prices and increased possibility of LNG exports from US. GAIL is pursuing gas sourcing opportunities across the world including US.

  • Public Comments Sought on Amendments in Registration and Licensing of Industrial Undertakings Rules

    The government has come out with draft rules to amend the Registration and Licensing of Industrial Undertakings Rules, 1952. The rules were published in the Gazette of India on August 8, 2012. The gazette publication is for information of all persons likely to be affected thereby, and notice is hereby given that the said draft will be taken into consideration on or after the expiry of a period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Gazette of India in which this notification is published, are made available to the public;

  • Exports for July 2012 Stood at USD 22.4 billion

    India’s exports for the month of July 2012 stood at USD 22.4 billion compared to July 2011 when it stood at USD 26.3 billion registering a decline of (-) 14.8%. During July 2012, the imports were USD 37.9 billion as compared to USD 41.1 billion in July 2011. Balance of Trade stood at USD 15.5 billion during July 2012 as compared to USD 14.8 billion in July 2011.

  • Turnaround in Exports by September-October, says Anand Sharma

    The union Minister of Commerce, Industry & Textiles Shri Anand Sharma today reviewed the export performance with the Export Promotion Councils and leading Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the backdrop of a visible slow down in exports. The Minister noted that the performance in July 2012 has been worrisome as exports have dipped by 14.8% as compared to last year. The first four months of the current financial year have seen exports reaching US$ 97.6 billion as compared to US$ 102.8 billion during the same period last year.

  • Defence Minister Dedicates Indian Navy's Financial Information System

    The Defence Minister Mr AK Antony, today dedicated the Indian Navy’s Financial Information System (FIS) to the Nation.

    Lauding the Navy’s initiative as a major initiative in the field of financial management Mr Antony said “I hope other two services and all the other departments of the Government of India will follow this timely and useful initiative of the Indian navy. I would like to congratulate the navy for taking this timely initiative”.

  • Stress on Prospects for Cross-Cutting Technologies for New and Renewable Energy Sector

    In an attempt to give a boost to new and innovative technologies in the field of new and renewable energy applications,the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) organized a two-day “R&D Conclave on New and Renewable Energy-Prospects for Cross-Cutting Technologies” from 9-10th August, 2012 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

  • Anand Sharma to Assess Industrial Scenario with the Industry

    The Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Shri Anand Sharma will hold stakeholder consultations next week in the light of recent IIP figures and the evolving industrial situation. The Minister is regularly reviewing the situation with the senior officials and has expressed concern over the drop in industrial performance in recent months.

  • Initiatives Taken by the Government for Unearthing and Curbing Black Money: A Fact Sheet

    I. The Government of India has commissioned a study on unaccounted income/ wealth both inside and outside the country bringing out the nature of activities engendering money laundering and its ramifications on national security. The study is being conducted by three national institutes viz. National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), National Institute of Public Finance & Policy (NIPFP) and National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), with inputs from various ministries/departments. The study will be completed by the end of 2012.

  • 36th International Geological Congress to be held in India in 2020

    The 36th International Geological Congress will come to India in 2020 after a period of 56 years. The last International Geological Congress was held in India in 1964 in Delhi. Dr. Vishwapati Trivedi, Secretary, Ministry of Mines today presented the bid before the International Union of Geological Science (IUGS) Council consisting of 121 member countries and 128 votes were cast in favour of India against 51 votes to Canada, which had offered Vancouver as the venue of IGC 2020.

  • Development of Tourist Destinations/Circuits in A.P.

    The development, promotion and implementation of tourism infrastructure projects is primarily the responsibility of the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration. However, the Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for tourism infrastructure development projects identified in consultation with them, subject to availability of funds, inter-se-priority and adherence to Scheme Guidelines.

     

  • Joint Venture Steel Plant with Russian Company

    The Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has said that NMDC Limited and M/s Severstal (a Russian company) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up of a three million tonne per annum steel plant in Karnataka under Joint Venture.

    In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today he said, NMDC has since initiated necessary action and approached the Government of Karnataka for allocation of land and other utilities like water, power, etc. As it is a major project no time line can be indicated at this stage.
